City of Derry Triathlon Weekend

The City of Derry Triathlon is part of a multi-day festival of sport delivered within a compact city-centre venue on the banks of the River Foyle.

The event brings together thrilling Europe Triathlon Cup and Europe Triathlon Junior Cup races alongside a Triathlon National Series Age Group race on Saturday; with a kid’s fun run taking place on the Friday. This culminates in a festival weekend which also includes the city’s annual Waterside Half Marathon and combines international competition, mass participation, and community engagement.

All races finish in Ebrington Square, offering a highly accessible and spectator-friendly environment in the heart of the city.

Kids & Family Activities

The Kids Fun Run event is the key children’s event for the COD Triathlon weekend.

The fun run is for children aged 4-12 and will be held on the Friday afternoon of race weekend – giving younger children the opportunity to cross the same finish line as the Elite and Age Group athletes.

Further details will be available on the news section of this website at a later date. Additional family-friendly activities and amenities will be available around the venue across the event weekend.

Get Involved – Volunteer

Volunteers play a vital role in delivering the City of Derry Triathlon and helping create a safe, welcoming, and well-run event for athletes, spectators, and the wider community.

The event is delivered by North West Triathlon Club, a not-for-profit sporting club dedicated to developing triathlon and multi-sport participation across the North West. Volunteer support directly contributes to the club’s ongoing work in youth development, community engagement, and the promotion of multi-sport at all levels.

From course support and athlete assistance to registration, logistics, and spectator guidance, volunteering offers a unique opportunity to be part of a major international sporting event in the heart of the city.

No prior triathlon experience is required. All volunteers will receive a full briefing, clear role guidance, and on-the-day support from the event team. Roles will be allocated based on availability, interest, and experience.

Volunteering is open to individuals, clubs, community groups, and organisations, and provides a meaningful way to support local sport while experiencing the atmosphere of race weekend up close. And of course, you’ll get a super cool COD Triathlon T-shirt. Send us a message using our contact form below adding the word VOLUNTEER (along with any other details you feel are relevant) in the message field.
